Is Style More Important Than Quality?
The time has come, your roof needs to be replaced. What now? What type of roof do you select? Your roofing contractor will be there to assist you in your selection, but ultimately the choice is yours.
If your roof is an insurance replacement you have serious considerations to keep in mind. Number one is a like quality roof as the one being replaced. If you go for a more expensive roof you pay the difference out of pocket. If you select a lower quality roof, you do NOT get to pocket the difference. You cannot profit from an insurance claim and even your mortgage company could get involved since you are reducing the value of their collateral.
Now, with those considerations in mind, what do you select? Is warranty an issue? Lifetime? 20 year? 10 year? In my opinion, this shouldn’t even be a consideration for homeowners in North Texas. If your roof is 3–5 years old, there’s a 90% chance you have storm damage that would void the warranty. So, why worry about something that, in all likelihood, will never be of value to you.
The most important factor in roof replacement is your roofing contractor.
After selecting an experienced, respected and highly ranked roofing contractor, style is really the sole consideration when replacing your roof. What do you want your home to look like?
Fly by night roofers may attempt to guide you to the roof materials they profit the most from. Reputable roofing contractors will help you make an informed choice when replacing your roof. Again, if insurance is involved there are special considerations.
